Dr. Erik Palmberg may recommend an occlusal adjustment to improve or correct your bite. Signs that you may need an occlusal adjustment include:
- Chronic jaw pain
- Tooth wear that is excessive or uneven
- Chipped and cracked teeth
- Frequent headaches and migraines
- Feeling that your bite is lopsided or just “off” when chewing
Your bite may be off-balance or misaligned due to any number of factors, including lost teeth, teeth that have shifted out of place in your mouth, overcrowding, missing teeth or irregularly shaped teeth. Dr. Palmberg will examine your teeth and mouth carefully to determine if your bite is misaligned before creating a treatment plan to resolve the issue.
Occlusal adjustment involves removing any interference that causes an uneven bite. In most cases, this can be completed by making small changes to the shape of the tooth in the tooth enamel. As the adjustments are minor and the tooth enamel has no feeling, your adjustment should not require the use of an anesthetic. If additional treatment is needed, our dentist will evaluate your bite and jaw to determine what the best option for your needs is.
